Gold is a form of Currency, just like Noxious Tokens and Premium Points. Just like its counterpart on real Tibia, Gold is used to purchase items in-game. It is the currency of choice of most NPC's on Noxious: you will need it for plenty of useful items like Potions, and you often receive Gold in exchange for the items that you sell to NPC's.
Unlike on Tibia, Gold on NoxiousOT has 4 different forms instead of 3. Also unlike Tibia, 100 pieces of a certain type of Gold can be converted to the next form of Gold, simply by right-clicking it.
